Spring is the perfect season to spend time outside. It’s getting warmer, lighter and the evenings are longer. Gloves and hats can be put away and flowers and animals can be spotted outside as they bloom and emerge from hibernation. Playing games is a wonderful way to encourage children to get outside and enjoy the Spring season. Games also support their social, physical and motor skills and they’re not just for children, either. Adults and teenagers can join in and they can be a great way for families to spend time together and take time to bond and grow relationships.
Although a lot of these games are designed for outdoor play, that doesn’t mean they can’t be brought inside the home or classroom on a rainy day! Get spring-ready with these fun and easy activities for all ages.
Spring Themed Scavenger Hunt
What’s more perfect than a Spring walk? On a clear day, doing a fun scavenger hunt with pupils or your children could be an enjoyable way to teach them more about the Spring season and expand their knowledge on topics such as hibernation, insects and animals. Using a scavenger hunt checklist can inspire your children on what to look for. For those who have found all the items on the checklist, you could add a bonus round with slightly harder things to spot, such as egg shells, baby birds and animals. You could make the game more competitive by incorporating a spring-inspired prize for the child who finds all the items the fastest.
Pin the tail on the lamb
This is a take on the classic “pin the tail on the donkey” game, just with a spring twist! The idea behind this game is to pin the tail closest to the tail on the image, whilst blindfolded. All you need for this game is print out a picture of a lamb and make sure their tail is visible. Then print out the same image for however many players you have and cut out just the tail. You’ll also need a blindfold and a prize for the person. It’s a super easy and cheap activity, which can be played in the garden on a nice day or indoors, too. This is a great game for any age, as you can change the difficulty by making the tail smaller and making the starting point further away for older children and adults. If you want a ready made template, this pin the tail on the bunny game is a great alternative.
Easter Egg Drawing Competition
Although this one is more Easter focused, it’s still a seasonal game as hatching birds and eggs are associated with Spring. The idea behind this game is to give children a chance to let their imagination run wild as they design a colourful and patterned Easter Egg. By using an egg template, children will be able to design their own egg whilst practicing pencil control skills and staying inside the lines. Their design doesn’t have to stop with pencils and pens, they can use pipe cleaners and stickers to make their egg look spegg-tacular. Of course, all designs created by your children are fabulous and deserve to be celebrated, but you can have a prize ready for the design which you think is the most spring-themed and has the most creative variation.
Treasure Hunt
This is a great idea for parents and also works indoors or outdoors. It’s common for Spring to be associated with Easter, so creating a fun Spring treasure hunt in the garden, house or classroom is a fun lead-up to Easter. This is an exciting game that children will naturally look forward to as they try to find the hidden items. Some of the treasure hunt items could include fluffy chicks (these can be found for cheap at supermarkets and home stores), plastic eggs and chocolate animals to symbolise spring, dried flowers and little trinkets of your liking.
You can decide on your hiding places and then create clues or riddles for your children to help them find the other items. These could be in the form of cards or signs and could point them to the next item. You can make them as colourful and Spring-themed as you like!
Spring Board Game
A traditional board game can be a fun and simple way to enjoy with family and friends. It also encourages healthy competition amoungst children. This Spring-themed editable board game has a super easy set of instructions to follow and gives children the ability to create their own version of a classic board game. The pack includes beautiful flower counters, a dice to craft, an editable game baord and editable question cards. The cards can contain anything from a maths equation, a general knowledge question or ten star jumps! The great thing about an editable board game is that you can continually change the question cards and board as your children grow older and also just to mix it up once they begin to learn the answers!
We really hope you’ve enjoyed this Spring Games blog! Hopefully you have found some inspiration from the games above to support your children’s and pupils learning throughout the Spring season. See you next time!
